Shirley Young was a prolific mature-aged marathon runner who held every Australian marathon age record from 57 to 75 years. She started running ultramarathons in her early 60's & went on to hold many World & Australian records in W60, W65 & W70 age groups in distances from 6 hours to 100 miles.

In 2007 Shirley was the only female to have completed all 30 Melbourne Marathons. The final event of her 72-marathon career was at the 2008 Melbourne Marathon where she succumbed to cramps at 33km.
