Australian Capital TerritoryMartin Dent is a retired elite Australian marathon runner who remains active & competitive in the sport of orienteering. He represented Australia in both the steeplechase & marathon events.
As a teenager on the NSW Central Coast, Dent was prominent in 3000m steeplechase & cross country competitions where he won several junior championships. He moved to Canberra in 1997 to join Dick Telford's Australian Institute of Sport training squad & made his marathon debut in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2002.
Dent's final steeplechase competition was at the 2008 Olympic Trials and he retired from elite marathons upon finishing the 2014 Commonwealth Games marathon. He will now often be found at parkrun & local orienteering events where he runs with his wife & children.
