VictoriaDerek Clayton is a retired Australian long-distance runner who was born in England and raised in Northern Ireland.
Clayton was the first marathon runner ever to break two hours & ten minutes when he set the world best marathon time at Fukuoka in December 1967. He further improved this in Antwerp in May 1969, setting a time that stood for almost 12 years as the world's best.
Clayton represented Australia twice at Olympic Games & won four Australian Marathon Championships. He was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 1999.
