VictoriaGerald Backhouse was a champion schoolboy athlete who went on to win six consecutive Victorian Mile Championships & four Victorian 880 Yards Championships.
Backhouse was a Sergeant in the Royal Australian Air Force, serving on attachment with the Royal Air Force during World War II. He died in a practice bombing flight over England on 28 December 1941, aged 29 years.
